FAQ
Are Urshuz comfortable?
The Urshuz sole was specially designed to have an orthopedic, ergonomically contoured footbed, which is designed to cradle the foot in the most supportive and comfortable way. The interlocking grid system connecting the footbed to the outsole, also allows for the sole to make fine-tuned, micro-adjustments for an ultimate customized fit after the first few wears.
Are Urshuz durable?
The shoes have proven to be durable in initial user testing. In addition, the shoes held up very well when tested by Precision Testing Laboratories in Nashville, which performed robot walking tests to simulate 6 months of frequent usage.
Are Urshuz Waterproof?
Urshuz are designed to be water-resistant. The sole has a molded inner wall that serves as a water barrier between the upper and the footbed. In general wet conditions, this barrier causes the shoe to have the same ‘water resistance’ as most shoes, however, like most shoes, Urshuz are not expected to be ‘water-proof’ in deep puddles.
How long does it take to assemble or disassemble the shoes?
That depends on your skill level… Our experts have gotten it down to under a minute per shoe to assemble, and around half of that to take it apart. For most people, a couple minutes per shoe is the norm.
When I assembled the shoe, it looked VERY wrong?
- Check to make sure you have attached the ‘right’ upper onto the ‘right’ sole, and the ‘left’ to the ‘left’ sole. The two indicators of this are; the ‘Ur’ logo flag should always be on the ‘outside’ of the shoe, and the printed sizes on the backside of the tongue will say ‘right shoe’ and ‘left shoe’.
- Check to make sure you have positioned the elastics in the correct locations. For all ‘closed-toe’ styles, the first elastic you should attach is the front center one, located in the toe area. Please see our instructional video if you have any further questions on how this works.
I am having a tough time stretching the elastics into the locking channels. Is this normal?
Although it is possible to insert the elastics into the locking channels using your fingers, we recommend you use the tool to help. The elastics will insert relatively easy if you use a circular / sweeping, motion to slide the elastic into the locking channels. If you are still having trouble, please watch our demo video.
NOTE – As you wear the shoes, the elastics should increasingly become easier to remove and attach.
Why does it seem that one of the ‘teeth’ on my sole is sticking out further than the others?
In this situation, it is most likely caused by the elastic only being partially attached to the upper hook. Remove the elastic from the locking channel of the sole, and check to make sure the elastic is properly seated in the upper ‘hook’.
Why is there a slit in the bottom of my sole?
This slit is to allow for the possibility to convert Urshuz into a flip flop sandal.
What happens if you break or lose an elastic? Do I need to buy new shoes?
No. In the unlikely event that an elastic breaks – we include replacement elastics with each pair of shoes. If additional elastics are needed, they can be ordered here: customerservice@urshuz.com. They’re free!
What if one of the elastics breaks?
Double check to make sure the elastic isn’t still attached in the channel of the sole. If it is, simply use the tool to remove the elastic from the channel of the sole, insert the flat part of the elastic into the upper hook, and try re-attaching the upper. If the elastic has, in fact, broken, simply replace with one of the replacement elastics provided for each shoe.
My elastics are not the same shape as when they were new. Is this a problem?
No. The elastics will change shape to adjust to the hooks. This is normal, and does not affect the resilience of the elastics.
How long is the warranty on the shoe?
Urshuz are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty period is 180 days from the date of purchase. Warranty valid only with proof of purchase from an Authorized Urshuz Dealer.
How do I make a claim?
If you purchased Urshuz at one of our Authorized dealer within the United States or in Canada, Urshuz should be returned to the store where they were originally purchased with your receipt. Retailers’ will process the return for you.
If you believe that Urshuz are defective and are unable to return them to the store where they were purchased, or if the retailer will not honour your return, you may contact us directly at customerservice@urshuz.com.
How long does it take to process a return?
Items returned for defect evaluation will be processed in the order they are received. Evaluations can take 1 to 3 weeks.
What happens if I lose the tool?
Each pair of soles comes with one tool in each sole. If you happen to lose both tools, you can order a replacement tool here: customerservice@urshuz.com. They’re free!
NOTE – A ballpoint pen can also be used to remove and attach the elastics
How do I figure out what size I am?
Urshuz are sold in full sizes only and they run a little large, so if you typically wear a half size, you will most likely fit the half size down (for example – if you typically wear a size 10.5, you will most likely be a size 10 in Urshuz).
Are the soles really recyclable?
Yes. Urshuz are made of Thermo-Plastic Rubber (TPR), which is 100% recyclable. Your old soles can be returned to us, we will ship them back to the factory. They will be ground up into small granules and re-injected to make brand new soles! Click here for more info.
How do you pronounce Urshuz?
It is pronounced “Yer Shoes”, because they are YOUR SHOES. After all, you designed them!
Are Urshuz available for Women or Children?
Not yet, but soon. We are developing a women’s line and a kids’ line that will be available in 2012.
Are Urshuz washable?
Urshuz soles are 100% machine washable.
NOTE – It is not recommended to machine wash our uppers. Our warranty does not cover damage cause by washing the upper part of Urshuz.
Do Urshuz get smelly if I wear them without socks?
Urshuz footbeds are made with the same type of TPR material as the soles, only much softer. Besides the footbeds also being able to be 100% recycled (like the soles), they also have excellent anti-microbial properties, therefore, are very resistant to smelling!
Does EVERY upper in the line (including flip flops) fit with EVERY sole?
Yes, the complete system is 100% interchangeable, thus you have the ability to buy multiple uppers or soles, without needing to spend the money for a ‘complete’ new shoe!
Will the tool in the sole make it difficult for me to travel on airplanes?
Over the course of developing this project, the Urshuz tool has never been questioned going through airport security.
